Network Representatives:

The Historical Geography Network of the Social Science History Association invites you to take part in the 38th annual meeting of the SSHA, November 21-24, 2013 in Chicago, Illinois.
We are seeking complete panels as well as individual papers.
The Historical Geography Network has an active membership of scholars who utilize geographic information systems (GIS) and other spatial tools to tackle a wide range of historical problems.  We encourage papers and panels that utilize spatial methods to ask new historical questions as well as to revisit old ones.  A number of interesting panel themes were suggested during the annual general meeting in Vancouver.  Examples include but are not limited to:

-- Literature and GIS
-- Spatial Organization of Power
-- Geographic Theory
-- Racial Spaces
-- Capital Flows
-- Spatial Censuses
-- Qualitative Applications of GIS
-- Political Networks and Diffusion
-- Built Environment
-- GIS for World History
-- Environmental Geographies
-- Urban Social Networks
-- Advanced Spatial Statistics and Modeling
-- Economic Diffusion and Westward Expansion

The 2013 conference will be held in downtown Chicago, at the Palmer House Hotel.  For more information on the meeting as well as the call for papers, please refer to the SSHA website: www.ssha.org.  The theme for this year’s conference is "Organizing Powers".  However, all papers and panel submissions will be considered.  We also encourage cross-network sponsorship of panels.
The deadline for papers and/or panel submissions is February 15, 2013.
The SSHA requests that submissions be made by means of its web conference management system. Paper title, brief abstract and contact information should be submitted to: http://conference.ssha.org/ Panel proposals should include an organizer, discussant, and at least 3 paper presenters.
If you have any questions or need assistance putting together a panel please contact either of the network co-chairs, Don Lafreniere ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!

Sincerely,
